Dawnings

A beast of love

By Nicholas Hooper

A beast of love came by one day
and pulled me on a path, a way
to find a life that’s full and warm
where words mean more and touch is charmed
with force I had not known before
until I saw your gentle face
and eyes so filled with loving grace
they pulled me in and led a dance
that took directions made by chance
into a pool so deep and strong
I found my heart could do no wrong
and there I rest till life is done
A place where I can see the sun
and watch you grow and change with me
till all our minds and bodies free
can take that plunge to accept all
and be no longer in death’s thrall.

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
