Dawnings
A worry
By Nicholas Hooper
As our world drifts into the ever more extreme
and our friends want to be ruled by the dangerous and incompetent
I worry about the future that was never secure but is definitely insecure now
As country after country ignores the causes of overpopulation and inequality
and the obvious effects of increased gases poison our health and nature
I wonder that we turn away from hope and our striving to improve
So dig deep now and find a soul place where the impossible can be imagined
and see the shouting for what it is: the angry child rules
and the grown-ups are locked out while tantrums rule

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
