and come back right

Dawnings

and come back right

By Nicholas Hooper

quiet morn and sad heart
fills the echoes of the breathing air
and struggling out of despairing dreams
finds a space for its own development

and perhaps the lesson of this
is don’t throw away any love, any kindness
towards another
even in the utmost bafflement and rage

when a turning is wrong
do not willingly take it and follow the deepening chant
but listen for that space which is always given
in the hope that we can turn, turn, turn

and come back right
