Dawnings

bowl

By Nicholas Hooper

circled in sound
the bowl holds me
it is the beginning and the end

that sound of metal
resonating from a single blow
will start and end reflection

and that sight of trees circling
will hold me in a place
so peaceful in that moment

to think of a vessel
that contains sound
that contains nature
that contains food or drink

it is the place where life begins
where songs are sung
and prayers are made
in the beginning is its end
