Dawnings
Longing
By Nicholas Hooper
That seascape, so infinite, so beautiful,
it brings freedom for the soul,
that freedom that I long for
the world forever cascading in swirls of beauty
always there to see, always there to be
in the embrace of clouds to the songs of birds
That release from the prison of ‘must do’
so driven by fear of loss and wrong,
that release can come with the sip of nectar
but all these cycles bring me round again and again
to the same place, away from the sea, away from the infinite,
that way of being that I long for
so bring me back, bring me back
to that place that I so long for
bring me back to peace.

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
