Dawnings

Vessel

By Nicholas Hooper

Explore this vessel
Its sides are long and deep
It contains any number of things
And brings them in and lets them go

In the darkness that is the spring of life
A new idea is born, is born, is born, born
Not the shiny and forceful thrum of progress
But the thoughtful, ever changing shape of future

What is to come? What is to be known? What new growth?
Inside the vessel there springs a connection with the everlasting
It is ever-changing as it swirls and spins like a never-ending river
And the vessel knows at that moment that it has touched the universal

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
