Dawnings
What comes to mind
By Nicholas Hooper
The unscalable, the unreachable mountain
the boulders in the way
the precipice below
as we struggle up to find the view
That wish to see and understand
To remember and appreciate
as looking down onto the world around
we see those terrible, frightening things
that we thought were so huge
are just small rocks on the path to the skies
Is there another way? we ask
to scale a life and see the ocean of infinity
Or must we let the guiding hand
lead us up, up to discover that all those fears on the way
were of our own making
so that we can drop them
like pebbles
into the air

About Dawnings:
“Every morning at around 5am I get up and go down to my studio. After a short meditation I write down whatever is in my head, giving myself fifteen minutes to do so. Then moving over to the piano (or a more portable instrument like my Ukulele when I'm away), I improvise and record a piece of music inspired by whatever words I just wrote. It is a great way of keeping both my writing and my composing going and I call these small creations Dawnings. They are mostly unedited, like sketches, so that they keep that fresh feeling of an early morning discovery.”
